Consumer Protection in Online Shopping
Your Rights when Shopping Online in Germany
In Germany, your rights as an online shopper are protected by the "Distance Selling Act".
- Right of withdrawal: You can withdraw from the purchase within 14 days of receiving the goods.
- Exceptions: Some products, such as those made to order, perishable items, or opened sealed products, may be excluded from the return policy.
- Withdrawal information: If the seller does not provide this information, your right of withdrawal may be extended up to 12 months.
- Product return: After notification, you have 14 days to return the product.
- Money refund: The seller must refund all payments within 14 days.
Warranty - Your Rights as a Buyer
- Quality guarantee: Every seller is obligated to provide you with a product that is free from physical and legal defects.
- Standard warranty: For new products, you have a warranty entitlement for 2 years from the purchase date.
- Used products: For items that have already been used, the warranty period can be shortened to one year if this was specified in the contract.
- First 6 months: If you discover a defect within the first 6 months of purchase, it is assumed to have existed from the beginning. Afterward, the burden of proof lies with the buyer.
- Your options for defects: Upon identifying defects, you have the right to repair or replacement. If both options are unfeasible, you can request a price reduction or withdraw from the contract.
